Prof. Assaf Schuster

Biography: Prof. Assaf Schuster of the Computer Science Department is the head of the new AI center at
the Technion. He is a Fellow of the ACM and the IEEE, with more than 200 published papers in highly
selected venues. His interests and publications are in the wide scope of distributed and scalable data
mining, big and streaming data technologies including management, analytics & prediction, cyber security
and system/IoT vulnerabilities, privacy preserving, cloud resource management and more. He consulted
leading hi-tech companies and participated in the bumpy journey of several startups, two of which he
co-founded.
Prof. Qing Li

Biography: Prof. Qing Li is currently a Chair Professor (Data Science) and the Head of the Department of
Computing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Formerly, he was the founding Director of the
Multimedia software Engineering Research Centre (MERC), and a Professor at City University of Hong Kong
where he worked in the Department of Computer Science from 1998 to 2018. Prior to these, he has also
taught at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Australian National University
(Canberra, Australia). Prof. Li served as a consultant to Microsoft Research Asia (Beijing, China),
Motorola Global Computing and Telecommunications Division (Tianjin Regional Operations Center), and the
Division of Information Technology, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO)
in Australia. He is the chairperson of the Hong Kong Web Society, and also served/is serving as an
executive committee (EXCO) member of IEEE-Hong Kong Computer Chapter and ACM Hong Kong Chapter.
Prof. Ying Tan
Peking University, China
Biography: Ying Tan (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Eng., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Southeast
University, Nanjing, China, in 1985, 1988, and 1997, respectively.,He is a Full Professor and a Ph.D.
Advisor with the School of EECS, and the Director of Computational Intelligence Laboratory, Peking
University, Beijing, China. He is the inventor of Fireworks Algorithm. He worked as a Professor with the
Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, in 2018, a Senior Research Fellow with Columbia
University, New York, NY, USA, in 2017, and a Research Fellow with the Chinese University of Hong Kong,
Hong Kong, in 1999 and from 2004 to 2005. His research interests include computational intelligence,
swarm intelligence, deep neural networks, machine learning, data mining, and intelligent information
processing for information security and financial prediction. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the
IASEI Transactions on Swarm Intelligence and the International Journal of Computational Intelligence and
Pattern Recognition, and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, the IEEE
Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning System, Neural Networks, and the International Journal of
Swarm Intelligence Research.
